Circle VIII - Bolgia IV
Overview

This is the realm of the Fortune Tellers and Diviners in The Inferno. The souls there have their heads affixed backwards on to their bodies, and walk in reverse with tears ever blinding their eyes.

The denizens of my Fourth Bolgia undergo much more substantial transformations, for they are The Creationists, and their ditch contains a vast, dense forest that they are forced to inhabit and undergo continuing reincarnations at various point in the food chain. Thus they finally learn about biology firsthand.

Comments

One of the most amusing habits of Creationists is that they will pick and choose certain biological examples that suit their purposes while ignoring a great many others. In all fairness, this is probably due to sheer ignorance on their part of just how much species diversity their really is, and just how terrible, terrifying, and uninspired many aspects of biology really are. There is a wonderful list of such behaviors listed here.

The Book
Of course, Creationism isn't just for the Violent Against Biology anymore. Some of them have abandoned the Evolutionary Front for a flank attack that involves Cosmology. (I don't have a specific place for such people in my Infernova but I really should - for now they can go with the Violent Against Statistics.) I am referring to the purveyors of the popular "fine-tuning argument." In a nutshell, these people believe that the values of the fundamental physical constants were somehow highly improbable, and that, therefore, God must have specifically set them that way. There are two problems with this. First, there is no evidence to suggest the improbability that they tout, and second, even if there was, it hardly demonstrates that it was the work of a designer. More details on why their argument fails can be found here.
Only a Designer would have the infinite wisdom and compasion to design the hundreds of tick species that so effectively locate and parasitize their hosts, including humans! And only a Designer would think to use them as a transmission tool for wonderful and exquisitely designed diseases and ailments such as Lyme disease, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, Ehrlichiosis anaplasmosis, Relapsing fever,Tularemia, Tick-borne meningoencephalitis, Colorado tick fever, Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever, Babesiosis, Cytauxzoonosis, and Tick paralysis!
